Downhill

Wheeee!
Here we are
Five bums on a big comfy couch
Of a slide
The long undulating slope before us
Filled with excitement
Filled with opportunity
Trees, no problem.
We can navigate around them
Shrubs, we will doze over
And we’re off
Overweight
Over-imbibed
Ready for bear
Hard right around the spruce grove
Picking up speed
Collapsing through the banks
Sprays of frozen flakes pour over
And over
Filling faces peals of laughter
Through the shrubs
Propelled pioneers
Forging new paths
First one path, then two
And finally a third
The last exacting its revenge
Slicing a gash through the cushion
Our big comfy couch of a slide
Deflating as we pick up speed
Now a carpet of five joined souls
Over a snow hump
Airborne to the edge of the ditch
Through, landed, and dumped
Unceremoniously upon the road
We scramble apart
As the country pick-up
Rolls over
Deflating the last of our steed
Laughing, crying, big children
Stuck in a ditch
Warmth in friendship
Love in our fellows
