The Woman Who Would Marry Me

Are you nuts
The anticipated answer
But then
...Yes
Yes she is

Track 13

The steady throbbed hum
Electricity and coolants permeate the space
And being.
Competing with heart
To secure space in this life
Disembodied informers
Enunciators of naught
Time, place, departure
Denote a rush to passage
Punctuated by curtain call
As the base of humanity is silenced
Ensconced in glass and metal and plastic
To be borne to place
The cry of agony
Steel turned onto iron
All depart to silence
Calm to drips and drops
The street above leaks the weather
Spaces in the impermeable
Leave vestige puddles
Splashes high symmetrical
Trumpets mouths opened
Aching upward to new voices
Punctuated by rhythmic bumps
Loose joints jangled by solid wheels
The weight of trams
Silent above
Drummed below
The dull rumble of the outbound
The pitched squeal of the inbound
Engorged with commerce
From then to then at
Employed
Buoyed by possibility
The challenge to excel
The rare to exceed to recognition
A distant dream rumble
Approached to Flinders
Line track 13
Dead end here
The hiss and throbbed hum
Shadowed passages of strangers
Connected wireless to ether
Good to morning
A start to an end

Baby Splat

It was an inferno
I stood staring through the goods in the large glass window
Willing the cool from within
To my within
The wraith appeared from over my shoulder
Deeply tanned
Dressed in black
Black hair, black shadow
Black haired arms
Black haired legs
And across his middle
A white crown blonde
Tiny white hands
Tiny bare legs
Wrapped secure in a swaddle
Featureless black blending to the black of his clothes
My God, thinks I
This man had been walking about when
Splat!
This bug of a baby squished itself to him
I turn from the window
"Did that hurt mate?", says I
Pointing to his chest
"At first", he says
"But then she becomes a part of you".
He stands beside me
We stare together into the cool beyond the glass
He straightens his clothes
Barefoot in the heat
"That black dress does look good on you mate".
A smile
And he and she sashay away.
